AKA News -Endorsements

Lately the AKA NSW State Office have received many requests from karters to issue endorsements from their race history. AKA NSW will no longer be doing this as they are unable to asses if you have finished the meeting satisfactory and don't know if you have received a penalty until the race paperwork is forwarded to the state office.

Endorsements will not be valid unless submitted by clubs on the official form.

If you need an endorsement on your licence, please make sure you fill out the paperwork located in the race secretary's office on race day when you enter. At the end of race day, the clerk of course will sign you off if he/she are satisfied you have completed the meeting satisfactory. It is your responsibility!

Transponders are compulsory effective July 1, 2010

The 1st July 2010 is now upon us and as per rule 19.17 (a) (1) of the 2010 Karting manual we are required to use transponders.

We need to urge karters to take advantage of the special pricing that the Australian Karting Association has negotiated.

As per the agreement with Mylaps the price will increase by CPI on the 7th August 2010. It should be noted that the recommended retail price for the AMB TransX 160 is $404.80.

30/06/2010

Transponders are compulsory effective July 1, 2010

With Australian karting set to make the next step in its electronic era on July 1, members are encouraged to purchase their transponders by June 30 to ensure they receive them at a discounted rate.

By purchasing a transponder from CKRC at a discounted price, competitors will be provided with the opportunity to see all lap times from race events using the new AKA timing system, which is currently being rolled out across the country.

As advised by the AKA last year, on July 1 it will be compulsory for all competitors to have a transponder fitted to their kart while competing – with no exceptions.

"The AKA sees transponder timing as the final step in our process to reform karting through our Card (CMS) system and moves us into a new era in terms of the technology to be used in our sport," said AKA National Treasurer Max Laybutt.

"With the licencing card system now active throughout Australia, adding transponders has ensured AKA members can take advantage of the most advanced system in karting and focus on what we do best – racing!

"Transponders have already become a condition of entry for most major events during the early part of 2010 as the transition into a complete electronic has been rolled out.

"The use of transponders at race events sanctioned by the AKA across the country will become compulsory on July 1. This date is not changing, it is happening and karters should get in now to ensure they get their transponder at the discounted rate and are ready to race"

With the implementation of the compulsory transponders from July 1 host clubs will have the ability to provide direct and live timing to people at race meetings on your own laptop, post the results on the AKA website, and on Mylaps, the AMB Information site, as soon as the results are uploaded to the AKA Site they will also go to Mylaps.

Information Regarding Transponders

***Now Available from CKRC***

The Canberra Kart Racing Community now have the opportunity to assist in moving the club and the sport into a new era by purchasing their personal transponder from the club.

The sooner karters begin to purchase their own personal transponder the sooner we will be able to benefit from a faster roll-out of the new system.

Q - When do the transponders become compulsory?
A -
Officially the 1st July 2010, however some clubs are looking to get established earlier, as are the organisers of some major events, such as the Victorian Open who has listed that all entrants must have their own transponder. The National Karting Council has made this a requirement at the Nationals, and it is understood that each state will make it a requirement at their State Championships. There are lots of individual clubs that are already committed to total transponder race meetings in 2010 long before the July date.

Q - What is the benefit for me in buying a transponder?
A -
There are too many to list but here are a few.

  • Better lap scoring with less people required particularly for major events that have large fields.
  • More efficient race management from the entry collection to the actual race track
  • The supply of statistics for all concerned, including the individual karter on his own personal AKA web site or on mylaps.com
  • Instant data display will be available by those clubs who wish to display it at race meetings (providing the club has a wi-fi unit)
  • Real time race information by karters on their own lap tops in the pits (providing the club has a wi-fi unit)
  • Lifetime storage of race results, both individually, and collectively
  • Better availability of actual statistics for the National Body to construct future requirements of our sport
  • Plus many more....

For more information regarding transponders and/or purchase, please call either Tony Prendergast on 0412 500 621 or Stable Karting on 62410446.

Transponders will be on sale at the Canteen at the next CKRC race meeting on the 28th February 2010.

CKRC Members - Where Are They Now?

Matthew Hart

Congratulations to CKRC club member Matthew Hart on his selection to the Formula Ford Evans Young Guns Squad.

In 2010, Matthew will campaign the highly successful Mygale SJ08a chassis in the six round Victorian Formula Ford Championship as well as selected events of the Ford Genuine Parts Australian Formula Ford Championship.

Canberra-native Mathew Hart has a Karting CV that very few can match. His motorsport career so far includes a record number of Australian State Karting Title wins – amassing to a total of fifteen. Now, coming off the back of two very successful test days with the team, Mathew will be taking the reins of an Evans Young Guns Mygale for his first season of car racing.

"After my two test days with the team I knew I had to make the step up to Formula Ford. 2010 is going to be all about learning for me – learning how to drive cars and set them up, learning lots of new tracks and learning a new form of race-craft. It's also going to be a new experience in working with the team and its engineers in improving the car and my driving techniques. We've already developed a strong relationship with them and I'm sure this will see us go from strength-to-strength as the season progresses. I simply can't wait!" Said Matthew.

Congratulations from the Canberra Kart Racing Club and best wishes for your racing career in 2010.

If you know of any great achievements from current or former CKRC members, we would love to hear about it. Drop us a line at canberrakarts@gmail.com
